What is the India-UK CETA?
The India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic & Trade Agreement (CETA), will promote and support trade between the UK and India through reducing/eliminating Customs Duties on Eligible Goods; in order to receive duty reductions/exemptions, exporters will have to comply with the specific origin rules as set out within CETA. Exporters are required to obtain a valid Certificate of Origin (CoO) from an approved Certifying Authority in order to establish entitlement for Duty Reductions.
Under the India-UK CETA framework, exporters may need to demonstrate:
- Product origin eligibility
- HS code classification
- Value addition compliance
- Manufacturing transformation criteria
- Supporting export documentation
Afleo Group assists exporters with accurate CoO application support, documentation review, compliance checks, and coordination with authorized issuing agencies.

How to Check If Your Product Is Eligible for FTA Benefits
Before applying for a Certificate of Origin, it is essential to verify whether your product qualifies for preferential tariff treatment under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement.
You can check your product’s import duty in the UK under the India-UK FTA directly on https://www.trade.gov.in/pages/home by using the “Explore Free Trade Agreements” tool. This allows you to confirm your product’s HS code classification and the applicable duty rate under the agreement — before you invest time in documentation.
Step 1: Visit: https://www.trade.gov.in/pages/home
Step 2: Explore/ Scroll down to “Trade Connect Services” Section & Select Tarrif Explorer
Step 3: In the Search Tarrif section, Select “United Kingdom” In Partner Country Dropdown, Put HS Code in “Search Product or HS Code” Or If you arent sure about HS code, just put your Product name/ Description
Skip this step if you Know HS code
Not sure about your HS code? Simply type your product name in the search box and browse the results. Select the HS code whose description most closely matches your product category. Take a moment to cross-check the description carefully — an incorrect classification can lead to claim rejection or loss of duty benefits.
The MFN duty rate on a product may be 12% Ad Valorem — but under the India-UK CETA, the same product attracts 0% duty. That difference is your competitive edge in the UK market.
If your product qualifies, the duty savings can be significant. If it does not meet the Rules of Origin criteria, our team can assess alternative compliance pathways or advise on value addition requirements.
Not sure how to interpret your results?

FAQ
What is a Certificate of Origin (CoO)?
A Certificate of Origin is an export document which establishes where an exporter’s products are manufactured in order to claim customs duty exemptions or tariff reductions based on international free-trade agreements such as the EU-India FTA.
Who needs a CoO under India-UK CETA?
Exporters wishing to benefit from Preferential Tariff arrangements under the terms of the new India-UK Trade Agreement will require an original or certified copy of a current Certificate of Origin.
What are Rules of Origin?
The rules of origin decide what can be called an “originating” good in terms of agreements based on a product’s manufacturing process, its source of materials, or its value added.
Which authorities issue preferential CoOs in India?
Authorized DGFT agencies, Export Promotion Councils and designated Chambers are permitted by India-U.K. CETA Framework to authorize Certificate of Origin.
How long does the process take?
Export compliance is a fast process when all of your documents are complete, but if they are not complete then we have to wait for them before we can continue with the rest of the process. Depending on what type of products you’re exporting will also determine how long it takes. Some products require approval from an issuing authority, which could be weeks or even months.
Can you help with repeat export shipments?
Yes. Export compliance provides ongoing certificate of origin (CoO) filing services as well as export compliance assistance for companies that regularly ship their goods overseas.
What happens if documentation is incorrect?
You could experience a delay in clearing your cargo through customs. You might also lose the benefit of preference (i.e., pay higher duties) on some items. In addition to these things you could face penalties.
Do all products qualify for tariff benefits?
No. Merchandise that qualifies as originating under the terms of this Agreement can be eligible for Tariff Benefits, but there are certain product specific requirements that each item must meet in order to qualify.
