Everyone knows about registration and return filing facilities available on the portal, but the portal is not restricted to only these services. This article aims to acquaint you with the various features of the portal.

Homepage Elements
Once you open the GST website, the gst.gov.in homepage of the portal is displayed where you can have access to four general facilities, which are:
News|Updates|Events
The latest news regarding the GST Act and rules and any updates relating to returns, rates are mentioned in this section. Any upcoming events, for example, any future webinars are notified here.
Popular Help Topics
This facility is, particularly for new GST taxpayers. The guidelines are provided for return filing process, use of digital signature, use of offline tools, etc.
Quick Links for Registration of Taxpayers and GST Practitioners
When you scroll down the homepage, you can see the quick links provided for the registration of the taxpayers and also GST Practitioners. This facility is accessible under the services tab.
Important Dates
This section provides details about due dates of filing quarterly and monthly returns, refund applications, etc. Any extension in the return filing due date is updated here; hence it is a critical section.

Registration
Any new registration is done by clicking on the link provided under this service. One can even track the registration application status and can apply for filing any clarifications asked by the jurisdictional officer in regards to GST registration.

Under the payment service, creating tax payment challan and tracking the payment status options are available.
User Services
Various user services like finding contacts of tax officials, holiday lists, locating GST Practitioner, submitting grievance/complaint and enquiring about its status, generating user id for advance ruling and searching office addresses are provided under this tab.
Refunds
This service helps to track the refund application status.
GST Law
The link to the GST Act and Rules as well as latest notifications and amendments are available in this section. This tab also provides links to websites of individual state laws.
Downloads
All the offline tools are available under this section. Download these tool; details should be filled up in the forms and then uploaded on the site. The various offline tools under this tab include returns offline tool (currently it is available for GSTR-1 and GSTR-2 forms), tran-1 and tran-2 offline tools, GSTR3B offline utility, and many more.
Search Taxpayer
It is a beneficial service available on the portal. Through this service, you can enter the GSTIN of the taxpayer and fetch the details about the concerned taxpayer like its legal name, Centre and State jurisdiction, date of registration, the constitution of business.
You can also search for the composition taxpayer who has opted in or opted out of the composition scheme by entering its GSTIN or entering the state of his registration and financial year of opting in/opting out of the scheme.
Help
This section guides the users about the system requirements for accessing the GST portal. Many videos, manuals, and FAQs are posted to assist the taxpayers in the compliance process.
E-Way Bill System
The newest addition to the GST Portal is E-Way bill system. The link to the E-Way bill portal is given under this tab. FAQs and user manuals are provided to guide the users for trouble-free compliance. The information relating to the use of e-way bill, content, and validity of the E-Way bill is posted for the basic understanding of the users.

The GST portal is evolving with the passage of time. The government is introducing new functionalities on the portal for the ease of the taxpayers.
