What is ICEGATE?

Indian Customs Electronic Gateway (ICEGATE) is the national portal of Indian Customs governed by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). It is an online portal that provides e-filling services to the Trade, Cargo Carriers and other Trading Partners electronically. Presently 304,894 users are registered with ICEGATE.

Directorate General of Systems, CBIC has launched ICEGATE 2.0 w.e.f. 16.11.2022.It is being launched in a phased manner. Users will be intimated about various upcoming modules in advance by way of pop ups/tickers/notifications. Users will continue to use existing features of ICEGATE 1.0 and additional features under ICEGATE 2.0 till the complete rollout of the latter.

ICEGATE applications can be accessed in the following manner:

ICEGATE 1.0: The user can access all existing modules and features from ICEGATE 1.0. From 16 November 2022, the new link for ICEGATE 1.0 website is https://old.icegate.gov.in. This link is also provided on ICEGATE 2.0 website. Those users who are not able to access ICEGATE 2.0 (due to their filing location not being made live on ICEGATE 2.0) will be able to access ICEGATE through ICEGATE 1.0 application.

ICEGATE 2.0: The users can access the existing features as well as additional new features from ICEGATE 2.0. Post staggered location-based Go Live on 16 November 2022, ICEGATE 2.0 is accessed at https://icegate.gov.in.

A Step-by-Step Guide → How to Register on ICEGATE: A Complete Guide

1. Existing Users- Existing users of ICEGATE (i.e., users already registered on ICEGATE1.0) are not required to obtain a fresh registration. The user can directly log in by providing their ICEGATE ID and Password without having to register again. In such cases, the ‘User Type’ that needs to be selected shall be ‘ICEGATE User’.

2. New Registration: For new registrations, click on the <Register Now> button outlined in red as shown in the screen below.

Steps for New Registration for Importer/Exporter:

Step 1: For new/ fresh registration where Reference ID is not generated, the user should click on the 'Fresh Registration - Don't have Reference ID ' option.

If the user has an unexpired Reference ID, he/she should click on the 'Continue using Reference ID' option.

Step 2: The system will display the set of options from which the user can select the requisite role (eg. Importer, exporter, CHA, etc)

Step 3: Verify GSTN details and valid IEC for importers/exporters.

Step 4: Selection and Verification of contact details that is Email ID and Mobile number by generating OTPs

Step 5: After OTP validation, get a Reference ID valid for 15 days.

Step 6: Choose to proceed immediately or later with Role Registration using the Reference ID.

Step 7: Fill Registration Form: Complete the organization and authorized user details and upload the necessary documents. Save the form as a draft if needed.

Step 8: Submit Registration

For ICEGATE registration, an importer or exporter needs to submit the following documents:

PAN card, Import Export Code (IEC), Goods and Services Identification Number (GSTIN), Class III Digital Signature (DSC), Proof of Identity and Address (eg Aadhar card, passport, etc) and Authorisation letter
